




The internationally acclaimed Tenor, Evan Bortnick, has studied with such greats as Nicolai Gedda, Elena Nicolaidi and William Johns. In 1984 he celebrated his international operatic debut at the Teatro de los Bellas Artes in Mexico City in the role of Tom Rakewell in Igor Stravinski’s “The Rakes Progress”. In that same season he sang Don José in Peter Brooks highly successful New York production of La Tragedie de Carmen at Lincoln Center.
In the following season he was awarded a contract at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where he sang leading roles in. LA BOHÉME, L’ELISIR D’AMORE, ZAUBERFLÖTE, DIE SCHWEIGSAME FRAU, ORLANDO PALLADINO, LA FINTA GIARDINIERA, DER ROSENKAVALIER, DAS RHEINGOLD, and WEST SIDE STORY.
His engagements in the USA alone included roles like., Edgardo Faust, Rinuccio, Nemorino, Tonio, Ferrando, Don Ottavio, Herzog, Romeo und Rodolfo.
As a successful interpreter of modern operatic repertoire he has sung world premiers in operas like: Uncas (THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS), Bob Cratchet (A CHRISTMAS CAROL), Cherubino (ROSINA), Der Prinz (LEVIATHAN) und Der Selbstgetauschte (ENGEL AUF DEM WASSER) on two continents.
He has sung at such theaters as the„Statni Oper Prague“ “Bolschoi Theater Moskau”, die “Kansas City Lyric Opera”, die “Boston Opera”, Minnesota Opera sowie Musikfestivals in Aspen, Washington D.C., Lake George, Central City und das Opernhaus von Los Angeles.
In addition to his thriving career as a singer, Evan Bortnick has always taught singing with enthusiasm. At present he has over 20 students in his private voice studio in Wiesbaden. In addition he teaches classes in functional vocal Pedagogy at the Franz Liszt Hochschule für Music at the University of Weimar and has a position at the University of Mainz.
Evan has advanced training in Neurolingustic Programming and Bio-Dynamic Cranio-Sacral work. He is a certified practitioner and supervisor at the Rabine Institute for Functional Vocal studies. He also has a diploma for Psychological Astrology from Dr. Glenn Perry and has earned a diploma with honors from the Online College of Astrology, where he now serves as Dean of Professional Training.
